62nd Annual DGA Awards

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Winners of the 2009 Directors Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Awards and the recipients of the guild's 2010 Career Achievement Awards were announced on Saturday, January 30, 2010 during the 62nd Annual DGA Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

Following the welcome by DGA president Taylor Hackford to an audience of more than 1,600 guests, director and actor Carl Reiner hosted the ceremony.

Presenters included (in show order): Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison (Glee), DGA Board Member Jesus Trevino, Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington (Avatar), Jodie Foster (The Beaver), DGA Board Member Donald Petrie, Carey Mulligan (An Education), Gabourey Sidibe (Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire), President and CEO of Disney Robert Iger, Christina Hendricks (Mad Men), Anna Kendrick and Jason Bateman (Up in the Air), Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds), DGA Secretary / Treasurer Gil Cates, Robert Zemeckis (A Christmas Carol), Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight), Brad Pitt (Inglourious Basterds), Jane Alexander (Terminator Salvation), DGA President Taylor Hackford, and 2008 DGA Feature Film Award winner Danny Boyle.

November 10, 2009, Taylor Hackford announced that Robert Iger and Barry Meyer, Chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Entertainment, will be honored with the DGA Honorary Life Member Award at the Guild's 62nd Annual DGA Awards on January 30, 2010.

The DGA Honorary Life Member Award, a significant honor bestowed by the Guild over the past 72 years, is given in recognition of outstanding creative achievement, leadership in the industry, contribution to the DGA or to the profession of directing.

Past recipients have included Louis B. Mayer (1952), Walt Disney (1955), Jack L. Warner (1965), Darryl F. Zanuck (1968), Lew Wasserman (1975), Barry Diller (1990) and Jack Valenti (2001).

December 1, 2009, Taylor Hackford announced that director Norman Jewison will receive the guild's top honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Achievement in Motion Picture Direction, at the 62nd Annual DGA Awards on January 30, 2010.

The DGA Lifetime Achievement Award winner is selected by the present and past presidents of the Guild. In the Guild's 73-year history, only 32 directors have been recognized with the honor, including Cecil B. DeMille (1953), Frank Capra (1959), Alfred Hitchcock (1968), Orson Welles (1984), Billy Wilder (1985), Akira Kurosawa (1992), Stanley Kubrick (1997), Francis Ford Coppola (1998), Steven Spielberg (2000), Martin Scorsese (2003) and Clint Eastwood (2006).

December 8, 2009, the guild announces Special Award winners for 62nd Annual DGA Awards. Roger Goodman was recognized for Lifetime Achievement in News Direction, Cleve Landsberg and Maria Jimenez Henley were honored for Outstanding Career Achievement and Guild Service.

Cleve Landsberg received the 2010 Frank Capra Achievement Award, which is given to an assistant director or unit production manager in recognition of career achievement in the industry and service to the DGA.

Maria Jimenez Henley received the 2010 Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award, which is given to an associate director or stage manager in recognition of career achievement in the industry and service to the DGA.

All three awards were presented at the 62nd Annual DGA Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.

January 25, 2010, Taylor Hackford announced that Carl Reiner will return as host for the 62nd Annual DGA Awards. This year marks the 22nd time Reiner has hosted the DGA Awards, which will take place on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

The DGA's Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film has traditionally served as a barometer for the Academy Award for Best Director. Fifty-four out of sixty times since the DGA Award's inception in 1949.
