Wales Screen Commission

Wales Screen Commission is the Welsh screen agency whose aim is to develop the film industry in Wales and promote Wales as a filming location. WSC's main areas of activity include funding, locations, services and facilities, business support, exhibition, audience development. WSC is controlled by Welsh government and funded by the Wales Creative IP Fund.

Established in 2002, Wales Screen Commission has worked on over 3,000 enquiries and approximately 500 productions including box office hits such as “Tomb Raider II” with Angelina Jolie; “Edge of Love,” starring Keira Knightley, Sienna Miller and Matthew Rhys; “Half Light,” starring Demi Moore; “Flick” with Faye Dunaway, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” “Clash of the Titans,” “Robin Hood,” “The Cradle of Life,” “The Libertine,” “King Arthur,” “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,” as well as high profile television dramas such as “Doctor Who,” “Torchwood,” “Merlin,” “Gavin and Stacey,” “Skellig,” “Midsomer Murders” and “Casualty at Holby.” 130 million pounds ($218.4m) have been spent in Wales on projects with a WSC assistance.

Wales ('Cymru' in Welsh) is a small country situated on the western shores of Great Britain. It has three National Parks, five Areas of Outstanding Beauty.

Wales has a rich heritage and culture, over 400 castles and a landscape that offers a wealth of beautiful, mysterious and breathtaking locations. Cardiff (Caerdydd), the capital city of Wales, is approximately two hours by rail from London.

Wales is proud of its talented, internationally acclaimed actors and filmmakers including Sir Anthony Hopkins, Christian Bale, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Rhys Ifans, Ioan Gruffudd and Matthew Rhys.

Wales Screen Commission supports productions through the Wales Creative IP Fund. The 7 million pounds ($11.76m) Wales Creative IP Fund has been created as part of the Welsh Assembly Government's strategy for the creative industries in Wales. The WCIPF provides equity investment, typically between 50,000 ($84,000) and 700,000 pounds ($1.17m) for feature films, TV productions, new media and music projects. Applicants must have secured a minimum of 60% of their budget from third parties and be able to demonstrate that a proportion of their spend will be in Wales.
