Additional details

Tom Cruise dropped out of “The Tourist” (2011) in order to do this film.

This was originally a script entitled "Trouble Man" written by Patrick O'Neill. But it went through several rewrites by Scott Frank, Dana Fox and Laeta Kalogridis until it was finally approved by Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Director James Mangold finalized the script with Ted Griffin, Nicholas Griffin and Timothy Dowling's input.
