BBC Films

BBC Films is a British motion picture production and distribution company, a part of the British Broadcasting Corporation, UK's main television and radio broadcaster.

BBC Films has been responsible for some of the most acclaimed BBC television dramas in recent years, working with award-winning writer-directors such as Dominic Savage, Francesca Joseph and Stephen Poliakoff.

BBC Films continues its commitment to make British films and television dramas of integrity and ambition while widening its scope to include international and American co-productions.

BBC Films productions include the acclaimed “Mrs Brown,” starring Judi Dench and Billy Connolly; Stephen Daldry's “Billy Elliot” (BBC Films' most successful film to date, which has taken some $100 million worldwide, won three major British Academy Film Awards and was nominated for three Academy Awards); the Academy Award-winning “Iris,” starring Dame Judi Dench, Kate Winslet, Jim Broadbent and directed by Richard Eyre; Stephen Frears' “Dirty Pretty Things”; Michael Winterbottom's Berlin Golden Bear winner “In This World”; Gwyneth Paltrow and Daniel Craig in “Sylvia”; Roger Michell's highly-acclaimed “The Mother,” scripted by Hanif Kureishi; Lynne Ramsay's “Ratcatcher” and “Morvern Callar”; Pawel Pawlikowski's “Last Resort” and “My Summer Of Love” - both BAFTA award winners; Golden Globe winner “The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers” featuring a star-studded cast led by Geoffrey Rush; critically-acclaimed urban drama “Bullet Boy,” Saul Dibb's debut feature; and Danny Boyle's enchanting “Millions”; Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins in Stephen Frears' “Mrs Henderson Presents”; Woody Allen's first UK-set film, “Match Point,” starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers; “A Cock And Bull Story,” Michael Winterbottom's brilliant and hilarious adaptation of Tristram Shandy, starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon; Michael Caton-Jones' powerful and moving drama “Shooting Dogs,” starring John Hurt and Hugh Dancy; and “Confetti,” featuring a host of Britain's leading comedic talent including Martin Freeman, Jessica Stevenson, stand-up comedian Jimmy Carr and Alison Steadman.

Recent releases include “The History Boys,” adapted from Alan Bennett's award-winning stage play; the Cannes Prix du Jury prize-winning “Red Road,” Andrea Arnold's first feature; and “Starter For Ten,” starring James McAvoy, which recounts the romantic and academic fumblings of a first year University student; “Miss Potter,” the enchanting love story of Beatrix Potter, starring Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor; and “Notes On A Scandal,” adapted from Zoë Heller's novel, starring Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench.

Currently released is “Grow Your Own,” about a refugee family who are given an allotment plot and are gradually accepted into a diverse community united by their love of making things grow. Up and coming releases later this year will include David Cronenberg's new thriller, “Eastern Promises,” starring Naomi Watts and Viggo Mortensen; and “Meerkats,” shot using groundbreaking filming techniques, from the world's pre-eminent nature filmmakers telling the inspiring story of one family's resilience and fortitude.

BBC Films co-produces approximately eight films a year.

BBC Films is closely working in partnership with major international and British distributors, including Buena Vista, Sony, Fox, Miramax, The Weinstein Company, Pathé, Momentum and United International Pictures.
