Number 9 Films

Number 9 Films is one of the UK's leading independent motion picture production companies founded by award-winning producing partners Stephen Woolley and Elizabeth Karlsen >>>>.

Elizabeth Karlsen began her career in independent film production in New York working with directors such as Jim Jarmusch and Jean-Baptiste Mondino. Returning to London, Elizabeth worked as head of production for Palace Pictures headed by Stephen Woolley and Nik Powell. She co-produced Neil Jordan's “The Crying Game” (nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture) and continued to produce for Woolley and Powell's Scala Productions.

In 2005, Number 9 Films was awarded one of the much sought after Slate Development Funding schemes by the UK Film Council.

Elizabeth was nominated for the Producer's Guild of America and was awarded a Woman's Image Network award for her work on “Mrs Harris.”

The company releases include: Neil Jordan's “Breakfast on Pluto,” starring Cillian Murphy and Liam Neeson; Phyllis Nagy's Emmy and Golden Globe nominated “Mrs Harris,” starring Annette Bening and Ben Kingsley; Woolley's directorial debut “Stoned,” a biopic of the ‘original Rolling Stone’ Brian Jones, starring David Morrissey, Paddy Considine and and Leo Gregory; critically acclaimed “And When Did You Last See Your Father?”, an adaptation of Blake Morrison's memoir scripted by David Nicholls and directed by Anand Tucker with Colin Firth, Jim Broadbent and Juliet Stevenson; “How to Lose Friends & Alienate People,” an adaptation of Toby Young's bestselling memoir, starring Simon Pegg, Kirsten Dunst, Jeff Bridges, Danny Huston, Gillian Anderson and Megan Fox; “Sounds Like Teen Spirit,” a witty and heart-warming feature documentary taking a wry observation of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest directed by BAFTA-nominated Jamie J. Johnson.

Recent productions include Mark O'Rowe's (“Boy A,” “Intermission”) “Perrier's Bounty,” starring Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson; “We Want Sex,” a social comedy set during the 1968 Ford machinists' strike, written by Billy Ivory (“Common as Muck”), directed by Nigel Cole (“Calendar Girls,” “Saving Grace”).
